Certain professional buildings are subject to renewable energy production or greening obligations during their construction, extension or major renovation. The project must also respect the safety rules specific to the site’s activity.

  1. Buildings concernedThe Construction Code targets in particular commercial, industrial, artisanal, administrative buildings, offices, warehouses, commercially operated hangars, hospitals, sports facilities and school buildings exceeding certain thresholds.
  2. Load thresholdThe obligation applies in particular to constructions creating more than 500 m² of footprint, as well as to certain extensions and major renovations of more than 500 m².
  3. Minimum surface areaThe minimum roof proportion increases to 40% from July 1, 2026, then to 50% from July 1, 2027.
  4. ExceptionsExemptions may exist for financial, technical, architectural or security constraints or when costs are disproportionate.
  5. Special casesERP, ICPE sites and buildings with roof safety devices require specific checks.
